heat out of the Texan April mouth, blue bonnets at every street corner, birds, people out their cars, belated tears, weed tendrils, a pair of bats from my throat, shiny tongues, sloppy touches, words on paper, worlds at the tip of the tongue, a pink moon over Deep Vellum, a gathering of grackles, tender moans from another man’s mouth, showers, more April heat, anger at every impostor god out there, in here, an avalanche of grief, fossilized embraces, ambered parcels of meaning, then no meaning at all, undreamt dreams parading as midday visions, the breath of the Akita asleep between us, raspy rattles from the bag of bones, a scrap of faith, my tongue licking your unshaved cheek, water from every crevasse in my body, belated blood, sweltering sweat, combusting language, a fog cloud on 75, sap from the living tree, unrest for the buried girl, rogue angels crawling.
